Be yourself; Everyone else is already taken.
— Oscar Wilde.
Welcome to your final year of Grad school. Gasp.
Prepare yourselves; pace yourselves.
Plan your final year of grad school carefully. Pay attention to deadlines throughout the year, to getting your work done, bit by bit, so when it’s time to hang your thesis exhibition, when it’s time to publish your written thesis, you’ll be ready and know you’ve tried your hardest to do your best job.
Students will develop on a cohesive series of works based on a planned theme for their thesis project. This course will also cover research of markets, clients, awareness of contemporary themes, conceptual clarity, developing concepts for writing a thesis, and preparing for the MFA exhibition.
Students’ progress will be reviewed weekly throughout the semester. In addition, continued review of work will occur through survey, critiques with faculty, guest illustrators, and friends of the MFA Grad program (illustrators and art directors). There will be a strong emphasis on marketing the project being produced, planning for your written thesis, and for the visual display for your thesis exhibit.
Students can work with any illustration faculty for additional credit or without credit as a mentor, but they must share their progress by attending and presenting to the thesis class.
This is the first part of a two semester course.
